Merrick Pet Care is a family-owned company that got into to the pet care business by accident. They created some prototype treats for a potential account and made the trip to “pitch” them. The account picked a handful of them and placed an order. Of course, when Merrick tried to duplicate the prototype, they couldn’t get it done.

Eighteen years later, Merrick is still working hard to perfect the treats dogs have come to love. For the past couple of years, their treats have been ranked as the number two best-selling treat in pet stores across the U.S. by a Pet Retailer Report –they do have some fans.

The secret to Merrick’s products is the simplistic approach they take in making them. They use a simple processor, meaning they use the least amount of steps as possible during the manufacturing process. Their goal is to retain as much of the natural benefits as possible. Merrick does not use any artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. Merrick believes this approach keeps their treats popular with their customers and their guardians. They only distribute their treats to specialty pet retailer channels, and have been doing that since the beginning.
